SDEA Harassment Prevention Training

YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE DONE WITH
HARASSMENT TRAINING, HOWEVER...

In 2004 California legislators passed AB1825, requiring private businesses with 50 or more employees to provide professional training on preventing harassment, discrimination and retaliation to all supervisors by the end of 2005.

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL THE LAW SAID

The law also requires that this training is provided every 2 years! This means that if you trained your supervisors in 2005, it's time to do it again. More importantly, recent court cases reveal that an employer really needs to train ALL their employees—not just managers—on avoiding harassment, discrimination and retaliation.  Otherwise, are not truly insulated from liability.

SDEA has provided training for hundreds of local employers, and we can do it for you. Our DFEH-trained instructors provide the interactive harassment training that complies with legal requirements, which includes the following content:

  • Review of company policy prohibiting harassment and the complaint process
  • Federal and state law definitions of harassment, discrimination and retaliation
  • Bases, types and forms of harassment
  • Standards for evaluating harassment
  • Whose responsibility it is to prevent, report, and stop harassment
  • Communicating discomfort and asserting your right to a harassment-free workplace
  • Corporate and personal liability issues
  • Affirmative defenses to harassment claims
  • Remedies for complaints and consequences of harassing behavior
  • Confidentiality and privacy obligations
  • What to expect in an investigation process
  • Special situations such as third party and bystander harassment, favoritism, off-duty behavior, rumor control and frivolous claims.
In addition, the following activities and materials are included
  • Reference workbook for each participant
  • An Acknowledgement of Training form for each person’s employee file
  • A review of your organization’s harassment policy and recommendations for any necessary changes
