Basic Personnel Law

This course provides human resource professionals, supervisors, managers and executives with an overview of federal and California employment laws and alerts participants to actions needed by employers to avoid corporate and personal liability as well as penalties for non-compliance with workplace laws.

Topics include:
equal opportunity policies; employment discrimination and retaliation; pre-employment inquiries; reference checks; minimum wage; overtime and other critical wage and hour issues; employee classification as exempt or nonexempt; wrongful termination; due process in handling discipline and termination; workers compensation liabilities; employee leaves, such as FMLA, CFRA, Paid Family Leave, and pregnancy leave; disability issues under the Americans with Disabilities Act; sexual and other harassment; and privacy and disclosure of employee records.
